Lenovo Unveils Transparent Laptop for AI Future at MWC 2024

We have seen foldable laptops on the market and even used one of them, Asus. But brands are now going the extra mile to show that laptops can be exciting and more. Lenovo has unveiled a concept laptop that also features a transparent screen and body, which spells a nightmare for people trying to shoot or look at the screen in bright sunlight.

All kidding aside, the ThinkBook notebook has made its debut at Mobile World Congress 2024 (MWC 2024) in Barcelona this week, and it even has a built-in drawing tablet, just like Wacom. This Thinkbook concept laptop has a 17.3-inch screen that is large in every aspect and the transparent element allows you to peek through the content, which means a privacy nightmare.

So what is the technology that makes a laptop transparent? Lenovo uses a MicroLED screen without bezels, but up to 55 percent transparency gives the laptop a different look. Lenovo says that when the pixels light up on the screen of this Thinkbook concept, the less it remains transparent.

The concept looks cool and brings a new twist to the laptop vision, but even the company admits that the actual usage of these displays may not be limited to laptops.

In fact, Lenovo notes that digital artists may find this an ideal form factor for viewing content and drawing at the same time, thanks to the built-in drawing section at the bottom. “Users can switch seamlessly between keyboard and drawing board with a supported pen, unlocking new levels of creative efficiency,” it adds.

So when does Lenovo plan to introduce this concept as a market-ready product? The company didn’t give a timeline, and like most concepts, it’s possible we’ll never see.

The company has shown a lot of promise with its concepts over the years, and you can say the same about Motorola, the mobile brand it co-owns, which has brought foldable screens to your wrist.
